Rumi’s Soul Sword DIY (KPop Demon Hunters Cardboard Tutorial)
The ending of K-Pop Demon Hunters was so surprising! When Jinu sacrificed his soul to level up Rumi’s sword, seeing her default Huntrix blade transform into the massive Rujinu Soul Sword was soo cool!
With that new sword, Rumi became unstoppable and super powerful. I decided to bring this dope weapon to life using cardboard.
Here is my step-by-step DIY tutorial if you’re interested in a Rumi Soul Sword cosplay!
PHASE 1: CRAFTING THE HANDLE
To make the handle sturdy, I cut 6 layers of cardboard into a curved, ribbed shape.
Pro Tip: In 2 of those layers, I cut internal channels to fit wooden support sticks. This makes sure the handle stays strong and won’t snap during a performance or a photo shoot!
PHASE 2: BUILDING THE BLADE
The Rumi’s Soul Sword has that awesome fire-shaped tip. I cut out 2 identical layers of the wide blade.
To keep the cardboard from “wobbling like jello” I glued a sturdy wooden dowel down the center for support. After gluing the layers together, I pressed them down strong so the blade stayed firm and durable.
PHASE 3: STACKING THE GUARD
The guard is what gives this sword its aggressive look. I sketched a design just like the one in the movie, cut out multiple layers, and stacked them with hot glue. This stacking technique adds that “chunky” 3D feel to the piece!
PHASE 4: CRAFTING THE POMMEL
The pommel is the finishing touch. I decided to make it look like the Saja Boys symbol to represent Jinu being a part of the sword. I recreated the look by stacking tiny, detailed cardboard shapes at the bottom. It’s a phenomenal shape that really shows the Rujinu connection!
PHASE 5: PAINTING AND THE “HUNTRIX” FINISH
To get that signature Huntrix look, I coated the whole build in high-quality metallic gold paint. This gives it that shiny, lethal finish we see on screen!
PHASE 6: ADDING THE COLOR-SHIFT VINYL TO THE SWORD
Paint alone couldn’t capture the glowing energy of the sword. To get that magical effect, I used adhesive vinyl on the blade and hilt. The vinyl makes it look like it’s glowing under stage lights… it looks so professional!
